From Barren Land to Rich Resource-To Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Publishing Six Industry Revolution Theory by Qian Xuesen

In 1980s, the new technological revolution successfully drew much attention of Chinese government and academic field. During that period, Qian Xuesen structured the concepts over scientific, technological and industrial revolutions among various theories, innovatively divided the industrial revolution’s development phases among the whole human history, and pointed out in a scientific and looking-forward viewpoint that, once the fifth industrial revolution occurred due to information technology development, the sixth wave of revolution should follow. In addition, he predicted that, the core concept supporting the sixth industrial revolution would be creating knowledge-intensive big agriculture, including agriculture, forestry, grass, ocean and sand sectors.

During the knowledge-intensive big agriculture construction, Qian Xuesen gave special attention to the sand sector. He once predicted that the sixth industrial revolution would start with sand sector. Encouragingly, in the past two decades, many success stories over practicing technology roadmap of “use more daylight and less water with newer technology and higher efficiency” over the vast Gobi desert of our country, which fully reflects the perceptiveness and practical significance of Qian’s sixth industrial revolution theory.

This exhibition use a series of old photos, literature and his personal scripts to give a clear picture of the development process of Qian Xuesen’s Sixth Industry Revolution Theory, and tell people the concept of “sand sector” and the main purpose to develop this sector. In addition, a series of pictures, reports and physical objects would be used to reveal an old man’s attention upon our western desert in his later years, and the satisfactory results that people in the western China have made with many years’ practice under his theoretical guidance.

One purpose of this exhibition is to commemorate the sixth industrial revolution theory proposed by Qian Xuesen 30 years ago and further show the public another aspect of Father of China’s Space Program: image of a patriotic scientist in his later years with care about the people and aim of strengthening the nation. At the same time, spreading the sixth industrial revolution and sand sector development among the public is another purpose of this exhibition, so as to motivate and call for more like-minded people to get involved in this career and undertake the essential work in a  practical and complete way, which shall benefit the current and future generations.
