Qian Xuesen Library was selected as a national science popularization education base

On Oct 15,2012, the General Office of China Association for Science and Technology issued “[2012]No.45 ”document---About the Naming of National Science Popularization Education Base, indicating that in order to implement the National Scheme of Scientific Literacy (2006-2010-2020) and the Development Planning of Science Popularization Infrastructure (2008-2010-2015), to strengthen the construction of national science popularization education base and to encourage people to participate in scientific popularization work, China Association for Science and Technology has conducted the identification work of national science popularization education base in 2012 according to the Identification Methods of National Science Popularization Base (Trial). After going through many procedures, such as declaration conducted by local departments, preliminary assessment and recommendation made by national societies, provincial scientific and technological associations and relevant national departments, and evaluation and publication conducted by China Association for Science and Technology, China Association for Science and Technology decided to designate 397 institutions including Paleozoological Museum of China as National Popular Science Education Bases for demonstration from 2012 to 2016. The Qian Xuesen Library of Shanghai Jiaotong University Library recommended by Shanghai Association for Science and Technology was among the list.It was the second base that Qian Xuesen Library had been named after the national patriotism education demonstration base.

Special lecture for science popularization

Since opened, Qian Xuesen Library has implemented the instructions made by Hu Jintao on the opening ceremony and made science popularization one of its important tasks. The library has made the special film of "Experiment on Two Bombs", organized the special exhibition in memory of the 20^th anniversary of Chinese manned space undertaking, held special lectures such as "Qian Xuesen and Chinese Aerospace" and the advanced deeds report meeting of Shanghai Space Agency "921 team", and organized a series of science popularization activities including "Face to Face with Astronaut", all of which have gained a lot of praises. Qian Xuesen Library will take this opportunity to improve conditions for science popularization and organize more activities, thus to enhance its ability to provide science popularization services, give full play to the functions of science popularization infrastructure, and make greater contribution to the construction of people’s scientific literacy.
