The first exhibition designing seminar of human memorial was held in Qian Xuesen Library.

In order to learn and implement the spirit of the 18^th CPC National Congress and the spirit of national publicity and cultural relics working conferences, fully reflect the exploration and practice of the exhibition designing for human memorial at new times, highlight the cultural taste, ideological implication and educational value of the memorial, create exhibition with correct guidance, rich context, outstanding theme and clear points, give full play to the memorial’s important functions in promoting socialist core value, inherit excellent traditional culture, and enrich people’s spiritual life, the exhibition designing seminar for human memorial was held in Shanghai Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen Library on Mar 28, 2013. This was the first special seminar in China for the exhibition design of human memorial.

Human memorial is an important branch of museum in China, accounting for nearly 1/6 of Chinese museums. By exhibiting outstanding characters, human memorial keeps and passes down public memories, maintains and builds socialist core value, and promotes celebrity charm. The exhibition design of human memorial plays an important role among all works and is the precondition and basic guarantee for the success of form design, profound design and smooth operation. It is also a systematic project which integrates academic research, knowledge spreading and innovative conception. The discussion about relevant theories of the exhibition design of human memorial will contribute to the actual construction and planning of human memorial, to help human memorial play a more significant role in information spread and social education, and to the enrichment of museum science and memorial science, thus to provide cultural products with more profound thoughts, knowledge content and aesthetic sentiment. This seminar mainly included the following topics: basic exhibition of human memorial and the construction of socialist core value, the overall plan of human memorial exhibition, positioning, theme and system of human memorial exhibition and other contents related to the basic exhibition of human memorial.

More than 40 leaders and relevant research experts from the following organizations attended the seminar: National Museum of China, Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, Guangdong Zhongshan Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence Memorial, Hu’nan Liu Shaoqi Memorial, Tianjin Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial, Chongqing Nie Rongzhen Exhibition Hall, Heilongjiang Wang Jinxi Memorial, Jiangsu Hua Luogeng Memorial, Hubei Li Siguang Memorial, Shanghai Qingpu Revolutionary Historic Memorial (Chenyun’s Former Residence), Shanghai Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence Memorial, Shanghai Song Qingling Memorial, Shanghai Lu Xun Memorial, Shanghai Jiaotong University Li Zhengdao Library (under preparation) and Shanghai University Museum (under preparation), among which Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence Memorial, Shanghai Lu Xun Memorial and Hu’nan Liu Shaoqi Memorial were the top-three human memorial in the 2011 first-class national museum assessment. Wang Guangyan, Deputy Director of the Ideological and Political Department of the Ministry of Education, Peng Changxin, President of China Cultural Relics News, Wu Dan, Vice President of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Qian Yonggang, Qian Xuesen’s son and Chief Librarian of Shanghai Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen Library, Executive Chief Librarian Zheng Chengliang and officials of relevant departments attended the seminar. During the seminar, the participants also visited Qian Xuesen Library, Shanghai Space Laboratory and Shanghai Jiaotong University Minxing Campus.

This seminar was jointly hosted by China Cultural Relics News and Shanghai Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen Library. Since its establishment in 2011, apart from the basic exhibitions, the library also organized original exhibitions, such as "Qian Xuesen and Shanghai Jiaotong University", "20^th Anniversary of Chinese Manned Space Undertaking", which have received a lot of attentions and praises from the public. Up to now, over 280,000 audiences have visited the library and the exhibitions. In the evaluation of 2012 Excellent Shanghai Museum Exhibitions, the basic exhibition "Qian Xuesen---Scientist of the People" in Qian Xuesen Library won the prize of "2012 Excellent Shanghai Museum Exhibition".
