Caltech President came to visit the exhibition

In the evening of Mar 21, Thomas F. Rosenbaum, President of California Institute of Technology, came to visit Qian Xuesen Library with his colleagues including Brian K. Lee, Vice President of California Institute of Technology, and Nai-chang Yeh, Professor of the Physics Department, etc. Chief Librarian Qian Yonggang and General Party Branch Secretary Zhang Kai warmly received them.

With the guidance of staff, Rosenbaum and his colleagues visited every exhibition hall in Qian Xuesen Library. During the visit, the guests were attracted by the precious pictures and objects exhibited in the library. They all stopped to look at Qian Xuesen’s pictures took in Shanghai Jiaotong University and California Institute of Technology, the marriage photo of Qian Xuesen and Jiangying, the time table of "Qian Xuesen’s Major Working Fields" and the recovered scene of his study, and they also asked about the stories behind the objects. At the end of their visit, Rosenbaum agreed with the words that Qian Xuesen said when he left the US in 1955 "I come back to China to make people live a better life". Rosenbaum said that this was the best conclusion of Qian Xuesen’s contribution to the Chinese people.

In order to welcome guests from California Institute of Technology, the library exhibited Qian Xuesen’s doctorate graduation certificate, his Outstanding Alumni Certificate and Medal obtained in 1979, the certificate for the 50th anniversary of graduation, his English newspaper cuttings made during his years in California Institute of Technology and other precious collections. The guests were quite amazed about these. During the visit, Professor Rosenbaum not only praised the new form of exhibition, but also had a deep impression of the rich content of the exhibition.

After the visit, Professor Rosenbaum came to the audience message area and wrote "A Great Scientist and his Great Memorial". He said that he was very happy to visit Qian Xuesen Library during his visit to China. He also said that as an outstanding scientist jointly cultivated by California Institute of Technology and Shanghai Jiaotong University, Qian Xuesen used his wisdom, innovation and patriotism to make great contributions to the scientific and technological development of China and the US. As the President of California Institute of Technology, he was very proud that the university could have such an excellent alumni.

At last, on behalf of the library, Qian Yonggang gave Collected Works of Dr. H.S. Tsien (English Version) and the copy of Qian Xuesen’s doctorate graduation certificate to the guests as gifts. Professor Rosenbaum expressed his sincere welcome for the US tour exhibition which would be held by Qian Xuesen Library in the second half of the year. He said that he would like to visit the exhibition at that time.
