On October 31st,Dr. Roger Launius, Associate Director of Collections and Curatorial Affairs at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. paid a visit to Qian Xuesen Library & Museum in the morning. The invitation was a courtesy of Dr. Alexander C.T. Geppert of New York University Shanghai& Center for European and Mediterranean Studies.

Dr. Roger Launius had worked for NASA for over a decade before serving in the Smithsonian Institution and has been an absolute expert in the research of US aerospace history.   His familiarity and interest in Dr. Qian’s experience in both US and China are shared and expanded during the visit.

Dr. Launius and Dr.Geppert also stopped by QLM’s storeroom to review a few of valuable archives about Dr. Qian’s stay in the US. Both sides exchanged the information on paper documents preservation and the early history of Jet Propulsion Center.

Dr. Launius agreed that Dr. Qian serves the bridge between US and China to cultivate the air and space industry in both countries. His story and experiences should be known in a worldwide context. It’s excitedly anticipated that Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and Qian Xuesen Library & Museum will kick off collaborations in research, travelling exhibitions and museum interactive programs soon.
