QLM Conclusive Conference for 2015 Volunteering Work and Touring Exhibitions in Shanghai High Schools

On January 26, 2015, Qian Xuesen Library& Museum (QLM) held its conclusive conference for 2015 volunteering workand touring exhibitions in Shanghai high schools. The meeting also selected yearly outstanding volunteers and the awardees of 2015 Qian Xuesen Writing Competition.

QLM vice director Zhang Kai made the welcome remarks at the conference. He expressed the sincere thanks to the related organizations, QLM volunteers, and those high schools that have organized the touring exhibitions. He noted that 2015 is the 60th anniversary of the return of Dr. Qian from the United States. For this special occasion, QLM has brought his story to both foreign universities and local high schools. It’s a blessing to see so many volunteers being source of energy for all 2015’s big events. To look forward to the new year, 2016 is the 60thanniversary of China’s aerospace programs, the 120th anniversary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and also the 105th anniversary of Dr.Qian’s birth. Therefore, in the coming 2016, QLM will have more activities and exhibitions to promote Dr. Qian’s influence and legacy.

Ms. Wang Xifang, head of Department of Social Education, elaborated on 2015 touring exhibitions and volunteering work.In 2015, QLM brought our original exhibition to Shanghai’s 8 high schools,together with film projections, lectures, and writing competitions to illustrate a full picture of Dr. Qian. Over 15000 high school teachers and students have come to the exhibitions, and over 5000 have attended either film salons or lectures. Over 100 excellent articles from the writing competitions have been selected to compile into a series of work. In terms of volunteer management, QLM has successfully set up the volunteer management system and also improved the incentive mechanism. The total number of volunteers has amounted to 236 and the overall volunteering hours have reached 13557 hours.QLM volunteer Luo Yuan was awarded “Shanghai Outstanding Volunteer” and QLM volunteer team also won the “Shanghai Outstanding Volunteer Service Team”title.

QLM director Mr. Qian Yonggang concluded that  2015 is a remarkable year as QLM not only brought the exhibition to the United States, but also reached Shanghai local schools and the general public.QLM cannot make all this happen without volunteers’ time and dedication. It’s a shared effort to join all possible hands to pass on Dr. Qian’s story and legacy.
