Made in China, capable of climbing, crossing country, taking pictures in a wide rage and navigating in a long distance, China’s Mars Rover Proto type, devised by Shanghai Engineering Research Institute of Aerospace System, appeared at SJTU QLM on May 21st.

Mars is the fourth planet away from the Sun and is the nearest planet to Earth except Venus. Since 1969 when Apollo Manned Landing Program succeeded, Mars has become human’s next objective. On April 22nd,the head of China National Space Administration Xu Dazhe announced in the press conference of the first “Space Day of China” that our country will fully start the mission of Mars exploration and will launch Mars mission probe set for detecting and inspecting Mars land in 2020. To coincide with the 60thanniversary of China’s air and space industry ,the news of China’s Mars Exploration brought a trend of universal pursuit of space exploration in the nation. The visit of the Mars Rover to QLM also provided a chance for the public to have a closer look at China’s Mars Exploration Mission.

The Mars Rover will be exhibited in QLM until June 7th,for about two weeks. In the meantime, QLM will hold a series of activities including Science Salon “How far is human away from Mars?” and Teenager Science Creation Exhibition in Shanghai Week of Science and on International Museum Day.

This year is also the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Shanghai Aerospace and the 105th birthday of Qian Xuesen, the founder of China’s aerospace program. QLM held a series of commemorative activities to mark the year , including the forum “Qian Xuesen and Shanghai Aerospace”, “My Aerospace Dream” Youth Science Creation Exhibition, and the displayof China’s Mars Rover prototype.
