Dr. Xudong Wang, director of Dunhuang Research Institute, visits Qian Xuesen Library & Museum on October 27. Dr. Wang is the current party secretary and director of Dunhuang Research Institute, part-time professor of Lanzhou University and Northwestern University. He was invited as a keynote speaker at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s “[TANG] Lecture Series of World Heritage and Museums Directors” to share Dunhuang’s story and legacy to citizens in Shanghai. The lecture was the third of its series, following lecturers from The Palace Museum and the British Museum.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Dunhuang Research Institute signed a collaborative memorandum on October 27. As the only university campus in China that has sustained three centuries, Xuhui campus of SJTU is a huge “museum” per se. Dunhuang is the most notable town in the route of “Silk Road”, which links China and foreign countries. Dunhuang research institute has developed into a cultural relics protection research institute with a certain scale and influence both at home and abroad. The historical and cultural heritage of Dunhuang has been well preserved and inherited, however for the future development, Dunhuang needs more support from other museums, professional organizations and universities like Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It’s expected that the collaboration will mostly focus on the resources exchange and cultural heritage protection.
