QLM’s new publication: "Qian Xuesen’s Return to China: 1950-1955" came out recently. The monograph by Dr. Zhang Xianmin, is a result of a National Social Science Research Fund Project. The book intends to clarify many of the blind spots, misinformation and even misunderstandings of Qian Xuesen's return to China. Based on textual research, the author tried to restore a historical fact that was controversial in history, with sufficient and persuasive historical materials. 

 

1950 to 1955 was a major turning point in Qian Xuesen's life. The hardships and humiliation he experienced during the five years were explicit in many circumstances. But why did the USA detain him for such a long time? How was his baggage checked? Why did Qian Xuesen become a "prisoner"? How did Qian Xuesen’s letter to Chen Shutong go to the hands of the highest leaders of the new China? Why did the US government finally decide to release Qian Xuesen? This book, therefore, intends to uncover the hidden history, and to rectify any misinformation, hearsay or guesswork in the public.

 

The author, Dr. Zhang Xianmin, is the director of the Qian Xuesen Research Center at QLM.
