Mission Trans-missions

Time: May 10-June 24, 2017

Place: Temporary Exhibition Hall

Qian Xuesen Library & Museum and Architecture-Studio & young awarded Chinese, Arab and African architects co-present the exhibition “Mission Trans-Missions” in this summer. The exhibition combines a series of works by Architecture-Studio (AS) in forms of models, photographs, picture walls and multimedia presentations to explore how architects respond to and improve living qualities in an increasingly difficult surviving environment. The exhibition also presents the design works of 27 new architects from China, African and Arab regions with vivid displaying panel cases. These designers have won the 2010 China Promising Architecture Contest, the 2012 Arab Promising Architecture Contest and the 2014 African Young Architects Competition. This exhibition features these designers’ professional development after winning the award, provides a platform for their works and shares their experiences and ideas with the public.

It’s no coincidence for QLM to hold an exhibition about architecture and city landscape. Zhang Kai, executive director of Qian Xuesen Library & Museum, pointed out that in his later years, Dr. Qian developed and enriched the theory of “landscape city” which combines urban dwelling and natural landscape. The topics discussed in this exhibition, such as the inheritance of architecture and traditional culture, the relationship between architecture and social development, how to deal with the deteriorating environment conditions, are of the same essence of Dr. Qian’s theory of landscape city.
