Qian Xuesen was selected as the “Man of 2007---Touching the Heart of China”

At 8 PM Feb 17, 2008, the “Man of 2007---Touching the Heart of China” evaluation was launched on CCTV, and our alumnus---famous scientist Qian Xuesen won the honor.

The jury believed that Qian Xuesen was elected because of his outstanding contribution to the Chinese aerospace industry and his great demeanor. As the award indicated: “Qian Xuesen is the founder of the Chinese aerospace industry. He always regards the country as more important than his home and the industry more important than his fame and wealth.”

As a world famous scientist as well as an excellent model for patriotic intellectuals, Qian Xuesen has won the “Two Bombs and One Satellite Medal” and the honor of “National Outstanding Contribution Scientist”. With his family origin in Hangzhou, Qian Xuesen was born in Shanghai in 1911 and graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1934. From 1935 to 1939, he studied in MIT in the department of aerospace engineering and obtained Master Degree. Later, he continued his study in California Institute of Technology in the department of aviation and mathematics from 1936 to 1939 where he received his PhD. After coming back to China in 1955, he had been working as technical leaders for the research and development of rocket, missile and satellite, making outstanding contributions to the establishment and development of our missile and aerospace industry. Besides, he also made a lot of creative researches and contributions in various fields, such as engineering cybernetics, systems engineering and systems sciences, science of thinking and human body, Marxist philosophy, etc.

The program “Touching the Heart of China” has been held for six consecutive years on CCTV, during which the program has selected over 60 “Men of the Year”.
