Celebrating the Second “Space Day”

04/23/2017

China has established April 23rd as its national Space Day since 2016. To celebrate the second Space Day, Qian Xuesen Library & Museum and Shanghai Aerospace Technology Research Institute co-presented an intriguing dialogue between over a hundred primary school students and the chair scientist of China’s lunar probe project Ouyang Zhiyuan.

Students asked interesting questions such as: what will happen to Earth if without moon? How is that the moon is revolving around the earth instead of the sun? Will aliens occupy the moon as the transfer station if they want to invade Earth? What’s our ultimate goal of exploring the moon?

Professor Ouyang started his sharing with beautiful moon tales and myths, human being’s fantasy and obsession of moon exploration to the scientific facts and projects we have discovered and undertaken. From the USA’s Project Apollo to China’s lunar probe project, Professor Ouyang disentangled the mystery of moon exploration, particularly with his own working and research experiences. “To explore the moon is not only the progress of mankind, it’s also about a nation’s scientific and technological innovation.”
