Museums are an important social window that reflects the soft power of a city. The number of museums in Shanghai has reached 159 in 2022. To celebrate the International Museum Day, the 2023 Shanghai Museum Influence Index (MII) was released. Qian Xuesen Library & Museum ranked No. 16 among all museums in Shanghai.
The Shanghai Museum Influence Index, supported and guided by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, was released by the Shanghai Institute of Industrial Transformation and Development. Based on the big data, the influence ranking used mainly the “unconscious precipitation” data of each museum in the past year. The top ten museums are mostly industry museums and the ones that are accredited as the “first-level” museums by the National Cultural Heritage Administration. Although there is a slightly gap in size, funding, and personnel between university museums and public museums, university museums have its own advantages in terms of discipline development, scientific research, talent cultivation and cooperative exchanges.
QLM has been the top university museum in the Index for the past three consecutive years. It has been a great platform for the public to learn about the cultural heritage and the latest academic achievements of the university.
