Qian Xuesen Sculpture "Expectation" Unveiled at SJTU for 130th Anniversary Tribute

On April 7, 2026, the unveiling ceremony of the Qian Xuesen-themed sculpture "Expectation" was grandly held at the platform of Hanze Lake on theMinhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, dedicated to celebrating the university's 130th anniversary.

The Qian Xuesen-themed sculpture "Expectation" is a full-length bronze standing statue based on Qian Xuesen's classic late-life image. He stands upright with a profound gaze. The front of the base is inscribed with Qian Xuesen's message to his alma mater: "In the 21st century, strive to build Shanghai Jiao Tong University into a world-class university." It accurately reflects Qian Xuesen's deep affection for his alma mater as an SJTU alumnus and his earnest expectations for later generations of SJTU students. The sculpture is located at the intersection of Xuanhuai Avenue and Xuesen Road, echoing the statue of Sheng Xuanhuai at the East Gate.
